Amy Hodge - voice

Amy HodgeAmy Hodge has been providing vocal instruction since 1998. Presenting a kind and positive approach to singing, Mrs. Hodge instructs practical and healthy application to her students while always making sure to create enthusiasm for learning. Her lessons include focus on posture, breathing, vocalization, vowel production, and stage presence…all of which is required and desirable in any style of singing.

A Missouri native, Mrs. Hodge received her Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Central Methodist University, studying under the tutelage of Nancy Thompson Jones. She completed additional study and endorsements in theater and instrumental instruction. Additionally, she has completed all coursework for her Master’s degree in Vocal Pedagogy at Belmont University, where she studied voice with Dr. Emily Bullock and Dr. Lonnie Bond, and studied vocal pedagogy with Dr. Kristi Whitten. She has also spent time during her graduate studies observing and studying in the Vanderbilt Voice Center with Dr. Mark Courey and Dr. Thomas Cleaveland. She is also a certified Kindermusik Educator.

This lover of the stage has enjoyed many performance experiences, ranging from dramatic and musical theater to opera and oratorio. She has also found joy performing in various choirs and ensembles and has participated in vocal master classes with Richard Miller, Dale Moore, Shirlee Emmons, Alma Thomas, David Jones, David Starkey, Gary Greene and others. Her operatic and musical roles include the eccentric announcer in Douglas Moore’s Gallantry, Augusta in Moore’s Ballad of Baby Doe, Madame Peep in PDQ Bach’s Oedipus Tex, Dorabella in Cosi fan tutté, Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors, Estrella in La Perichole, Zita in Gianni Schicchi, Smitty in How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying, Gertie in Oklahoma, and others. She has also been a soloist in performances of Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Handel’s Messiah, Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb, John Rutter’s Requiem and Vaughan William’s Serenade to Music.

Believing that all dedicated teachers must be continuous students and professionals, Mrs. Hodge is often found observing other voice teachers and discussing pedagogical techniques. She is constantly seeking professional and helpful affiliations and conferences, which includes being a member of NATS (National Association of Teachers Singing), SAI (Sigma Alpha Iota, a professional fraternity for Women in Music), and CMS (College Music Society). Mrs. Hodge currently resides in Donelson area of Nashville with her husband, Jeromy...and her dog, Cooper!
